03/22/08: Tom Bevill Democratic Dinner
We are having a banquet on April 28, 2008 at the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum in Rainsville. This will be our first "Tom Bevill Democratic Dinner". We will be honoring our legislators, Senator Lowell Barron, Representative Richard Lindsey, Representative Frank McDaniel, and Representative Jack Page. Our speaker will be Alabama Demcratic Party Chairman, Joe Turnham.

With the end of the Presidential race close at hand, we turn now to the June Primary. Several county and state offices will be up for election. There possibly could be some interesting Primary races this year. Again we will have to explain to voters that this is the "Primary Election" when we pick our candidates for the "General Election" in November.
Qualifying for the June Primary will be at 4:00pm at the DeKalb County Courthouse on the following dates: March 6th, March 20th, and April 4th (last day to qualify). March 6th is also our Democrat Club meeting at 6:00pm, so come early and meet the candidates. Complete election information can be obtained on line at www.aladems.org.
We have three yellow-dogs serving on our qualifying committee this year. Ron Bearden serves on the executive committee at Oak Hill near Crossville. Ron recently retired as band director at Crossville School. Jimmy Wright serves on the executive committee at Mentone. Jimmy is retired from DuPont where he was an active union member. Ella Lindsey serves on the executive committee at Fischer and is also County Co-Chair. Ella is also active with the Sheriff's Mounted Unit.
Our executive committee will meet at the courthouse at 4:00pm on March 20th along with the qualifying committee. We have a few business matters to attend to so all executive committee members are urged to attend.
On March 20th, Democratic Women of Dekalb will meet at 6:00pm at Western Sizzlin in Ft Payne for dinner (dutch) and at 7:00pm the meeting will begin. The speaker this month will be Judge Steve Whitmire. Everyone is invited.
